OEM Manufacturing: Making Power with a Solar System for Manufacturing

Commercial Case Study

OEM Manufacturing
San Diego, CA

Challenge

The owners of OEM Manufacturing were looking for ways to lower operations costs of their machine shop in sunny Southern California. The building’s rooftop provided a perfect solution with all the San Diego sunshine that it receives annually.

Solution

HES Renewables designed a 69-kilowatt commercial solar system sized to offset 100% the manufacturing facilities’ energy needs. 192 solar panels were installed in two arrays to perfectly retrofit onto the rooftop with its skylights and vents.

Customer Benefit

The solar machine shop can now benefit for decades with an estimated $1,204,267 in electric bill savings over the first 30 years of renewable energy production. The investment offers an incredible return on investment of 591.8% over that 30-year period. The company was able to receive great tax credit and depreciation incentives such as the Investment Tax Credit (ITC), the Federal Bonus Depreciation, and the California MACRS Depreciation, which help the system deliver a quick payback period of just 3.5 years.

“…As utility rates climb, solar’s overall value only increases. …”
