CHALLENGE

The building owners of a beautiful medical building in Mission Valley were improving their portfolio and looking for new ways to increase Net Operating Income with solar. The building received abundant sunshine but was making no use of its rooftop area. 

SOLUTION

An HES Renewables commercial solar system was designed and constructed along the unique crescent-shaped building rooftop. Ivy Energy billing software was included in the system to allow individualized billing for each tenant. 

CUSTOMER BENEFIT

Each tenant benefitted with a discounted rate on their monthly energy bill. For solar-generated energy, each tenant saw a 10% discount compared to the current utility rate.

The building owners benefited from a new revenue stream. With discounted billing based on variable (rising) energy rates, the building owners would not have to worry about over-discounting the energy they provide to their tenants. The building owners also created a benefit to their tenants (clients) with energy savings as well as the satisfaction of operating with clean, San Diego renewable energy. 

HES Renewables also ensured their client, the building owners, received the maximum benefits, incentives, and tax credits. This lowered the initial cost of the commercial solar system significantly.

Robert Laverty joined the HES team in the summer of 2018, bringing his ten years of solar design experience and his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Puget Sound with him.
