Commercial Case Study

Creative Electron - San Marcos, CA

Creative Electron was facing uncertain future energy costs and a desire to power its manufacturing facility and offices in San Marcos with renewable energy. The radiography machine manufacturer, which creatively solves problems other companies cannot efficiently surmount, tasked HES Renewables with prioritizing performance, reliability and cost efficiency in adding a power source that would allow Creative Electron’s production and administrative facility to function on its own power and with the flexibility of future modification to respond to company growth.

With cost considerations prioritized and ample rooftop space available HES Renewables implemented 178 SunPower P-19-395 Modules in a five-array fully-ballasted rooftop system. Two Chargepoint EV charging stations were installed to provide employee and guest EV charging functionality to prepare for the increasing needs of EV use.

Customer Benefit

Creative Electron now enjoys the financial savings, cost stabilization, and the reliability of producing the energy it needs. Also an important consideration to the brand and its current and future customers was the benefit of operating on sustainable energy and lowering emissions through the use of renewable solar energy as well as providing EV charging to its employees and visitors.

We decided to go solar and to install EV chargers in our facility after a careful analysis of the return on investment (ROI). For the ROI calculation, we took in consideration the benefit to our community, our team, and our bottom line. Solar allows us to continue growing while offsetting the considerable (and increasing) cost of electricity. We chose HES Renewables because of our commitment to invest where we make our x-ray machines – thus creating local jobs and improving the lives of our team and their families.

Quick Facts

Powering Local Innovation and Manufacturing

As more companies discover the application of radiography to quality control, reverse engineering, or sundry challenges, Creative Electron continues its impressive growth. With this company expansion, energy costs had become an increasingly large and significant portion of operating costs. Founder and owner Dr. Bill Cardoso, as is his nature, sought out the most efficient and effective solution to his company’s energy challenges.

Dr. Cardoso could clearly see that a solar panel array atop his San Marcos operations and production building would insulate Creative Electron against electricity price volatility, seasonal cost swings from the utility, energy cost inflation, and cut costs overall. Radiography (industrial x-ray imaging) is an energy-dependent procedure and each step of in-house equipment manufacturing was equally reliant on electricity therefore a fixed cost to operate offered a strong long term benefit to budgeting.

Creative Electron also wanted to do its part in the implementation of renewable energy use, and also knows many of its clients respect and appreciate the use of solar power-driven manufacturing when purchasing their Made in the USA products from the San Marcos facility.

Additionally, as a leading, cutting edge technology company operating in a competitive employment marketplace, the business’ commitment to renewable energy helps attract and retain top talent. Two ChargePoint EV charging stations in the employee parking area further establish Creative Electron as a forward thinking company committed to its employees, its clients, and the planet.

Creative Electron, true to its guiding principles of manufacturing and servicing, sought out a local company to handle all of its power generation needs. It found the perfect partner in HES Renewables, and could see into the security and stability of partnering with a company that is also locally based and meeting strong company growth through delivering effective and cost-efficient solutions to its clients.
